The evidence a board actually funds

Watch a board meeting from the partnerships seat and you learn something uncomfortable fast: enthusiasm does not survive contact with a CFO.

The partnerships slide usually arrives full of activity. Partners signed, MOUs inked, logos arranged in a grid, an ecosystem "flywheel" diagram. Then the sales slide follows it with pipeline coverage, win rates and forecast confidence intervals, and everyone in the room can feel the difference even if nobody names it. One function brought evidence. The other brought vibes.

Boards do not fund vibes twice.

The fix is not better storytelling. It is bringing the same class of evidence sales and marketing are held to: a number, a benchmark and a trajectory.

The number is partner-sourced and partner-influenced revenue, measured with attribution rules someone wrote down before the quarter started, not reconstructed after it ended. Sourced means the relationship opened the door; influenced means it materially moved a deal someone else opened. Blur the two and the CFO will discount both.

The benchmark is what a structurally similar company gets from the same motion. Top-quartile B2B SaaS runs around 30% partner-sourced. If you are at 6%, that gap is not an embarrassment; it is the business case. It converts "partnerships wants headcount" into "we are leaving a measurable share of revenue uncollected against benchmark", which is a sentence a board can act on.

The trajectory is the quarterly slope once the motion is designed: overlap mapping, co-sell process, executive sponsorship, enablement. Boards fund slopes. A flat line with a good story attached gets cut in the first hard budget round; a line moving from 6 to 9 to 12 percent gets doubled down on.

Five minutes with the Revenue Gap Calculator gives you the first two: your number and your gap against the regional benchmark. The trajectory is yours to build, and the operators who have built it are exactly who is in the room at Accelerate on 28 October.
